Local news coverage of the launch of the Durham City Wasps. The City Wasps were established to play in the English League following the controversial sale and removal of the Durham Wasps from the Riverside Rink during the summer of 1995.

The following statement from Rex Brown, Durham rink-owner was read out on the night:

“The Newcastle United Wasps in my opinion live in disgrace and will play in disgrace. Truly Durham City Wasps are the Durham team…..the name of the game is not to buy success but play yourself to the top and I am sure that you will do it.” It concluded with the words “Durham should be proud of you.”
