The Boys are Back in Town…

The much-anticipated one off Durham-Whitley derby game return is getting closer, with more players confirmed by Nine Management this week.

The game takes place at Whitley Bay Ice Rink on Sunday May 4 and will see players from both sides of the greatest rivalry in British Ice Hockey take to the ice once again.

For the Whitley Warriors the latest quartet to confirm their attendance is Peter Graham, Terry Ord, Paul Matthews and John Iredale. They will be joined in the Maroon & Gold colours by Hilton Ruggles, Martin King, Simon Leach, Stephen Smith and Kevin Dean.

Meanwhile, the Big Blue Machine will contain Paddy and James O’Connor, Ivor Bennett and Stephen Foster. Already taking their place on the Wasps bench will be Anthony, Shaun and Stephen Johnson, Michael Tasker, John Hutley and Anthony Payne.

A 9 Event Management spokesman said: “The lineups for both sides are just getting better and better. This game has captured the imagination of former players as well as fans. Ex Wasps and Warriors players are contacting the office in their droves wanting to lace them up again and be part of this game.

“The supporters have thrown their weight behind it, too, with over 400 tickets being sold via the game website.

“It promises to be a fantastic celebration of a great rivalry, and something special for all hockey fans whatever their loyalties.”
